Genetics: Sour Diesel x OG Kush
Headband is an indica-dominant hybrid (70% indica, 30% sativa) and the offspring of two of the best parents a marijuana plant could want. These parents, the Sour Diesel and OG Kush strains, bring together many great qualities and have made an offspring like no other. Headband's name is a throwback to the early '80s when every hipster of the era wore a headband to celebrate their freedom, youth, and lack of fashion sense. Well, as the saying goes, "Everything comes back in style." Headbands (hello Lebron!) are hot again, and so is this strain.
Headband has got to be one of the most entrancing hybrid strains that I have reviewed in a while. It literally feels like you are wearing a headband when you medicate with this strain. A spacey, head-in-the-clouds smoke ensues every time I get my hands on this amazing strain. Headband is definitely a "heavy hybrid" because it makes your head foggy (probably from the Sour Diesel). This makes for a strain that is highly euphoric and also provides a strong body buzz, presumably from the OG Kush.
Looks and Smell
Headband has a great bag appeal. Open up that bad boy and you will see the buds themselves can be pretty large and have a hue that is somewhere in the yellow-green spectrum, lots of calyxes, short brown/orange pistils, and are wholly covered in crystals. The overall appearance is much more similar to Sour Diesel than any OG strain I have ever come across. The smell, ahh the smell... I highly enjoyed taking big whiffs of this batch of Headband. It produced a strong medicine-like odor even before the the zip-lock was cracked. Once opened, Headband exhibits a slightly sour smell, somewhat reminiscent of diesel fuel. Other notes in the flavor portfolio include pine, musty earth, and fragrant incense--these are from the OG side of the strain's lineage. Warning: this is a double, maybe even triple-bag strain; the smell is insanely strong.
Headband is one of those strains you can smoke and just stare off into space for a few minutes, only to "snap" back into reality and wonder, what the hell just happened? Also good for minor pain relief without the physical fatigue associated with most indica-dominant strains. Headband is definitely a heavier hybrid and is probably not the best option to start the work or school day--or anything that needs your full undivided attention, for that matter. Regardless of the time of day, this is always a very uplifting strain that never disappoints. The taste is very much like sweet/sour, powdery, lemony hard candy. The crystal-laden nugs produced thick smoke that had a serious diesel fuel aftertaste on the exhale.
When Headband is done correctly, it has great bag appeal all around. The taste, the smell, the looks--Headband has it all. The uniquely enjoyable sour-fuel taste makes for a memorable smoke session. Soil seems to do the best in coaxing out the flavors of the strain, but it also yields well in all hydro grow mediums, as well as outdoors. Also a great strain for beginning to novice growers, as the strain needs little attention and nutrience to attain good results. Although at first this was not a good daytime smoke for me, after a few sessions I soon found it to be a long-lasting, good utility day time option. Headband is good for the treatment of anxiety, stress, minor aches and pains, appetite issues, nausea, and depression. This strain is wonderful and is quickly becoming one of my go-to strains. The high is very tranquil with an excellent blend of both indica and sativa traits. The strong, euphoric head buzz that is accompanied by quite a body blow makes for a quality all-around, easy-to-find strain that everyone should give a try.
