Genetics: Jack Herer x G-13
XJ-13 ia a strain that is popular both for its medicinal uses and as a great recreational choice. The XJ-13 is a wake-and-baker's dream. Packing the 'get up and go' of a high quality coffee sans the caffeinated nervous edge.
XJ-13 helps you rise and shine with focused energy to start a productive day. It can be traced to the mix of two popular and extremely potent strains: Jack Herer and G-13. Needless to say, this hybrid mixture is one for the record books.
The G-13 lineage is interesting in itself. It was developed by the US government and is only grown at the University of Mississippi. The history of G-13 is shrouded in mystery, and few have seen the original strain firsthand.
Looks and Smell
The moment you lay your eyes on these nugs, you will certainly fall in love. The buds themselves are quite compact and somewhat dense. Most XJ-13 I have come across looks very akin to Jack Herer. In fact, the first time I grew XJ-13, I thought I was given mislabeled Jack Herer clones and didn't really notice a difference between the two until the very end of the grow cycle.
The buds have a unique neon green color that adds great contrast to the abundant long orange hairs and crystalized exterior. Another reason why this strain is so popular among growers and smokers alike is that its leaf-to-bud ratio is extremely low. In addition to this, the plant produces huge colas (I highly recommend topping this strain for maximum yield). Often these colas become so large that a support system needs to be devised. The smell can be described as earthy and piney, but the dominating aroma is a strong, citrus, tangerine scent that lingered on the nose, the quintessential smell from the Jack parentage.
The G-13 lineage adds some punch to the classic taste that is distinctly Jack Herer. XJ-13 is thus pungent and hazy. With this strain, what you smell is what you taste. Don't be caught off guard by this strain, and don't expect the usual Jack Herer effects. The high from XJ-13 is more intense, once smoked it brings an instant and energizing fun rush followed by a feeling of euphoria, creativity, and happiness.
Overall XJ-13 has a sweet/spicy taste, with hints of pine and lime. This hybrid produces a body numbing buzz that comes packaged with mood elevation, clairity and attentiveness. An ideal strain for those looking to jump start their day, XJ-13 may provide good morning and day-time relief from pain, anxiety, stress, and depression. It may be very effective medication for some insomniacs. The strain can also alleviate the effects of migraines, nausea, and anorexia.
A word of caution, due to its herritage, some dispensaries will put the XJ-13 label on unknown hybrids that have features of either of its parents. Don't be fooled, do your research, and use your head when you purchase it.
